Snowy Mountains 4WD Overnight Camping Tour

This full day tour incorporates an overnight Snowy Mountains camping experience in one of the many scheduled & picturesque camp grounds within the Kosciuszko National Park. Experience the thrill of an overnight stay in the magnificent surrounds of the Snowy Mountains under a starry sky with a warm camp fire & other camp comforts.

During the warmer seasons expect warmer daily temperatures, crisp nights and mornings, on clear nights the stars shine big and bright providing an amazing opportunity to try out your astro photography skills (weather permitting).

Many of the Kosciuszko National Park camp sites are situated on the banks of the crystal clear (but cold) running rivers providing a swimming opportunity for the adventurous or perhaps the chance to try your luck and wet a line for a trout.

Snow connect provide suitably equipped high clearance 4WD vehicles with low range capabilities that are required to tackle the natural terrain. Many of the Snowy Mountains historic huts are in-accessible to the average vehicle due to the road conditions. This ensures you can have the area to experience at your leisure.

Snowy Mountains Historic Huts

  • Doctor Forbes Hut
  • Geehi Hut
  • Dogmans Hut
  • Keeble Hut

The 4 wheel drive tour includes Doctor Forbes Hut which is difficult to access and its hidden location is not widely known about but well worth getting your feet wet to photograph and explore a bye gone era. Other huts you will visit include Geehi Hut and an exciting river crossing (conditions allowing) to Dogmans Hut on the Victorian side of the border. Keeble Hut is renowned as one of Kosciuszko’s best and has been recently restored to its original condition; all huts are accessible to the public.

To ensure maximum time to photograph and explore the area and capture sunset over the majestic western face of Kosciuszko National Park from Olson lookout, we use 2 equipped 4×4’s. You tour in one, another is available for support and carrying all the camping gear required. This way after a day exploring when you arrive at the chosen camp destination your tent will be ready for you and a warm fire burning so you can enjoy a drink & yarn around.

In the morning you will have the opportunity to wake early & capture the golden hour over the Swampy Plains River. A light breakfast & coffee is provided before the return trip back to your chosen location.

Our preferred Snowy Mountains National Park camp spot is situated on the banks of the river in the Keeble Hut surrounds, as this is a National Park camping experience. Facilities are very limited and basic, clean drop dunnies are available but there are no shower facilities provided in National park locations, however the river is there for the brave. This is a “bush camp experience” there are none of the usual caravan park facilities nor are there the crowds.

Snow Connect overnight camp experience supply all the gear necessary for a comfortable night, this includes a quality wind & water proof tent for up to 4 people, sleeping facilities that are rated for the climate to keep you warm.

Camp chairs around a roaring wood camp fire and the ability to recharge small appliances as there is limited mobile phone reception a mobile phone should not be a critical requirement nor is there any wifi.

The camp experience is designed to provide the opportunity to relax & unwind in the beauty of the peaceful surroundings without the distractions of everyday life. A hearty meal is provided in the evening this may include an Aussie barbie meal or a hot camp oven dish.

Other Snowy Mountains Camping Sites Include:

  • Leather Barrel Creek – which offers lush green ferns on the banks of the stream with large granite boulders
